We were predicted to have had another -10° morning. For the fourth day in a row, I've severely abused my snooze button on the alarm clock. Prepared (fearing) for work with very little motivation to get to work, I was delighted to read -3 on the thermometer!
Seemed to take forever to prepare clothing and actually get under way this morning. By the time that I had passed by the TCF, the temp read 0.
Clothing: By now, I think I have pretty much figured out what to wear to survive winter cycling. Having made an investment in a number of wool garments that only require weekly washing has helped tremendously.
The secret: drumroll....experience. Yes, experience has taught me that there is seldom a perfect combination of clothing. Something is going to be too cold while some other part of the body is simultaneously too hot. Practicing biofeedback techniques to convince the warm blood to accumulate in cold areas of the body have been unsuccessful.
Throw on what you think might be close and adjust or acclimate once under way. Regulating pace seems to be more effective than trying to figure out the perfect combination of clothing.
Today all of the stars were in alignment… It was such a nice ride in. Running late for work had the advantage of being able to ride when the sun was up and I made better time than I expected.

On the coldest days we've had out here lately, Amy finds that walking to work is much colder than walking home from work.
Even though the walk home is way more cold according to the various weather services.

Scott, it's a known fact that it never takes as long to get home as it does to get there :)
I tend to find that when doing out and backs, the return is much longer due to your knowing where you are. It is much more pleasant to be lost.
