Fabulous Friday

Sometimes, life moves at such a pace that it is difficult to stop and take a moment to reflect.  I was looking forward to a good long road-trip in the car, naively thinking that the hours spent in the car might offer some time to think.  I was reminded how much I hate to sit completely idle and instead commanded the driving position all the way home.  For me, driving takes an focused amount of concentration and does not really provide any relaxation. Oh well...

Hoping to get some saddle time in on a bike this weekend.  Since returning from Indianapolis, I have been feeling under the weather and committed to various doctor/physical therapy appointments that have required driving to meet time obligations.

Speaking of appointments; I met with the orthopedist that helped with my leg.  X-Rays look good, still some inflammation in the ligaments/tendons.  Hard for me to digest all of the medical details, but can summarize with... It may take a while (or never) be the same as my other ankle.  Keep doing what I've been doing, clearance to ride... discouraged from running.

What that means to me:
  • For the most part, I'm okay with not running.  I briefly entertained the idea and trained for a marathon a couple of years ago.  As soon as the weather turned nice, I decided that I'd MUCH rather ride a bike.   There are times (like now) or if I were not a year-round cyclist where it would be good for me to get out and go for a run.  I do like to run during the winter at night.
  • Keep doing what I've been doing.  This means stretching multiple times per day. I've been taking the stairs to our office on the 16th floor each day.  Concentrating and exaggerating the ankle articulation while taking the steps.  Keep riding the bike.

I have been on a bit of a spending spree for bike related goodies.  Beginning to get really excited about my new super-commuter. I finally ordered a Berthoud handlebar bag, found an original TA Pro Vis crank, and I picked up some rims from Hiawatha Cyclery and got my front wheel built.   I need to work on the rear, perhaps this weekend.

Considering my ongoing challenge with being reimbursed for my old bike, I've got myself seriously wondering about bicycle insurance or how to protect my investments.  Anyone have any experience with getting bicycle appraisals or insurance?

Hey - I talked to my insurance agent once about insuring bikes and guitars. He told me to take some decent pictures of them and send him a letter with the receipts (if I had them) and they would probably be covered under the household coverage as personal property. The photos were to help make the argument that the company (Allstate) knew about this property when they wrote the insurance. I never acted on this and have not had to make a claim (knock wood) but I wanted to pass this on in case it would work for you.

Good luck with the recovery and enjoy the nice weather!!

I will be attempting to photograph more of my bikes and keep better records on what I spend.

Part of staying out of trouble with my better half is not admitting how much I spend at various bike shops.

Then again, we do use Quicken and an incriminating report is only a few clicks away.
