Happy Monday

Today was one of those days when I could have ridden forever. When the final turn toward the office came way sooner than I even realized and I would have liked to have simply kept on riding. This despite the 20 pound box strapped to the top of my rack.

I took advantage of a nice day and fresh-legs-Monday to make a re-supply run with groceries. My lovely spouse was kind and able to load up on a supply of goodies for work:

  • 2 boxes of granola
  • 1 loaf of bread
  • 3 bags of granola
  • 2 boxes of oatmeal
  • 1 bag dried unsweetened pineapple
  • 2 bags organic dried mango
  • 1 bag of unsweetened dried cherries
  • 1 bag unsweetened dried Bartlett pears
  • 4 different bags of nut and fruit mix
  • 2 containers of organic soup
  • 1 bag of pistachios

  • I seem to be constantly hungry at work. I rarely go out to eat for lunch. I keep my desk drawers fully stocked with food and healthy snacks. People that might visit my cube have commented that if they’re ever trapped at work, they know where to go to get food. I know that between peanut butter sandwiches, granola, nuts, fruit I probably eat healthier than going out to lunch every day. Although the cost of groceries is high, I think I’m probably saving money. At least around my office (discounting fast-food) it is hard to go out to lunch for less than $8-10.

Interesting program on Minnesota Public Radio this morning: Building mental muscles

Not that I need more reasons to validate my activities any further than I feel I have already learned over the years, but sure is nice to read/hear/learn that there is some scientific study that validates my own peronsal observations. Perhaps the idea/news will catch on?

I love dried fruit. I am currently hooked on prunes and apricots.

The segment was good. I think some of the exercise stuff wasn't incorrect but could lead the average person to interpret things incorrectly.

To be honest, since I was at work, I wasn't listening all that carefully. I picked up on the premise that exercising can help on a number of different fronts including the basics spelled out here: [Download Sneak Preview]

I'd be curious to know what some of the inaccuracies were... Perhaps I should go back and listen again?

Nah, it was just about when they were talking about interval training and the speaker mentioned how including it made his belly fat disappear. I feel like that may imply to other people that you can spot reduce fat but I am just picking nits. :)

I've always believed in the neurological benefits of exercise. Some of my best ideas come while riding gravel.
